Trevi Fountain is the largest fountain in Rome, and is considered one of the most famous in the world.
In 1735, Pope Clemente XII commissioned the construction of the new fountain to the architect Nicola Salvi.
Inspired by Bernini, combining architecture and sculpture in a wonderful way, Salvi gave form to a monumental fountain against one of the walls of the Poli Palace.
The complex structure of the fountain needed thirty years for its completion, which took place under Pope Clemente XIII.
Thousands of people each day visit the monument to be able to throw a coin into the fountain, which according to the legend, guarantees tourist will return to visit Rome.
The Trevi fountain is divided into three niches by four columns. Its sculptures narrate allegorical events.
In the central niche is the statue of Oceanus, performed by Pietro Bracci, represented standing on a shell-shaped chariot pulled by sea horses guided by Tritons, works of Maini.
In the side niches we find the allegorical statues of Abundance and Sobriety by Filippo della Valle, topped by two bas-reliefs depicting the Virgin Nymph that indicates the fountain to the soldiers of Agrippa who orders to build the aqueduct, made ??respectively by Bergondi Andrea and Giovanni Battista Grossi.
The impressive sculptural group extends on a rocky podium bristling with rocks, plants and revived by figures of tritons and marine animals, mythological and real.
